You suggested that I report to you on what activities attended my leave of absence, and I am glad to do so.

Lectures

The Summer of 1960, attended a Symposium at Rosary College in Chicago. There—A Report on American Culture. I was one of the six invited speakers. My subject—Contemporary Art. The talks were published in the magazine Critique. Other lectures included St. Vincent College, Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Seton Hill College, Greensburg, Pennsylvania, Syracuse University, New York, Mount Holyoke and Amherst, Massachusetts, also Emmanuel College, Boston.

A series of lectures were given at the University of Texas in Austin—the most formal one, “Cultural Roots of the Mexican Renaissance,” being given under the auspices of the Institute of Latin American Studies.

Publications

A contract was signed with Yale University Press for publication this Spring of my book Mexican Mural Renaissance.

Mural Painting

In the Summer of 1959, I decorated with three frescos the Benedictine Church and Chapels of St. Benedict, Atchison, Kansas.

In November 1959, I decorated the Church of the Oratory, Rock Hill, South Carolina.

In May, June of 1960, I executed a large fresco, Mexican Village Fiesta, in one of the dining halls of the University of Syracuse.

Teaching

A summer course in advanced painting at the University of Minnesota in Duluth, that followed a retrospective show of my work at the Tweed Gallery, Duluth.
